Pagalan is a vast science-fantasy world where ancient technology, forgotten civilisations, mysterious portal gates and powers once mistaken for magic are woven through thousands of years of history. At its heart are the Patronese, a silver-haired, red-eyed people who escaped their dying home world of Yath Varnel and crossed the stars through a wormhole to begin a new civilisation on Pagalan. Their arrival, rise and eventual fall shape much of the world that follows.
The Pagalan Chronicles spans seven interconnected novels. The Pagalan Chronicles Origins trilogy tells of the Patronese arrival, the establishment of their civilisation and the events that ultimately bring it close to destruction. The King Beneath the World bridges this ancient history with the later trilogy, following King Mandrake Martelismore and a civilisation that has survived for two thousand years beneath the surface of Pagalan.
The original Pagalan Chronicles trilogy then follows Morganuke Beldere, a young man raised on the remote Banton Island who gradually discovers that his strange appearance and unexplained powers are connected to the lost Patronese civilisation. His search for his origins draws him into wars, ancient mysteries and a destiny stretching back thousands of years, ultimately revealing that the forgotten past of Pagalan may determine the future of the entire world.
